Personal work received awards

The APP (Australian Photography Price) is an annual photography competition created after the termination of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photography) to fill the gap left by the APPA (Australian Professional Photography Awards), another annual photography competition organized by AIPP.

The owners and organizers of the APP have done an excellent job of keeping part of professional photographers of Australia engaged in competitions and judging. It helped all who have entered the competition by reflecting on their skills, hearing other photographers’ comments on their images. All of this is very positive in improving technique and appreciation of your photos and other photographers’ images.

I have entered 5 digital images, all on the Travel category. Understanding the rules of each category is very important. In this category, you can not remove or change things in the image. So you can not just fix the painting on the wall just to look better. The image needs to be real.

Another interesting point on the interpretation of the category, and in this case, the Travel category, is something that I did not consider before, but that was very important for some of the judges. It is related to the participation of people in the travel image. Does a travel photo need to have a person in it? Is a travel photo better if it has a person in it?  It never occurred to me before the importance of people in travel photos. I will try to add some next time.

The rules and the interpretation of the rules by the judges and photographers entering the competition are part of the competition and part of the fun and learning. I love to hear what the judges say, even when I don’t always I agree with their comments. I was a judge on several of these competitions and awards, and on several occasions, I have not seen what others have seen and vice versa. It is always a good learning.
